Music in Worship
Music is an important part of our worship: hymns and songs, accompanying prayers and readings, as well as devotional anthems and instrumental interludes. We are blessed with a wide range of musical talent and resources, and we endeavour to use these in as full and varied a way as possible.
The choir makes a regular and important
contribution to Sunday morning worship, with music from many different
traditions. The repertoire draws on a wide variety of music, from across the
ages and around the world.
Rehearsals take place in the church monthly on Fridays at 7.00 pm and at 9.45 am every Sunday throughout the year (apart from the month of August). There are also occasional concerts. New members of all ages and ability are always welcome – come and introduce yourself after the Sunday morning service, or e-mail email@example.com.
The junior church band plays a selection of contemporary gospel and secular music in worship and special events. All are welcome to join.
A good proportion of the repertoire of the choir and music group comes from home-grown arrangements and original hymns and songs. One such hymn, In Christ is our Salvation, was written in 1988 by Clare Matthews and Anthony Eddy to mark the 250th anniversary of John Wesley's conversion experience.
Wesley Mem has a tradition of musical productions and home-grown shows, including Moses, the story in Exodus, with some amazing special effects. The latest was Amazing love!, telling the story of the Wesley brothers up to the famous conversion moment in 1738. Performers of all ages and many varying talents are welcome to join the shows. Music from two of the shows has been used during morning worship to illustrate the Christmas / Easter stories.

The next musical production will be in February 2019 — a compilation of songs from the various show, aptly named Time and Again. Tickets will be on sale after Christmas!
