In November 2018, Wesley Memorial Church Council adopted a Church Plan, setting out priorities for the period 2018-2021. Our plan is to be a Church that is WORSHIPPING, WELCOMING, WITNESSING and GROWING. See the full plan here.
The Church Stewards, elected at the Annual General Meeting, act as an executive body, implementing decisions of the Church Council. Following discussions on how to make information more readily available to everyone, it was agreed to add a Governance page to the church website.
The stewards meet 4 or 5 times per year to assure the spiritual and material well-being, and regularly discuss worship, social events, fellowship opportunities, outreach such as the recent Oxford Winter Night Shelter, and fire drills!
The Church Council usually meets 3 times a year. All members of the church are eligible for election to the Church Council, and elected members serve for a maximum term of six years. The Council functions as the church's Managing Trustees under charity law, is the body that makes decisions, and therefore has major responsibility. Meetings are usually open to any member of the church and congregation who wishes to attend as an observer.
Notes from the latest Church Councils can be made available on request.
The Annual General Meeting usually takes place after morning worship on a Sunday. It's an opportunity to hear about the highlights of the previous year, and to elect the Stewards and Church Council for the year ahead.
