Outreach
We believe in the fundamental
importance of social responsibility: living our lives, as Christians,
as a part of the wider community in which we live and work.
"Outreach" refers to anything we do that extends our work
into this community. It's impossible to classify things uniquely, and
you'll find more of our outreach activities by visiting the
Open Church page.
Church projects
At any time we have a number of ongoing projects, a variety
of local and overseas causes, for
which we hold fund-raising events and donate money. At present we are
supporting
FLEXICARE (Oxford) - respite care and support for families with children
with severe chronic health and disability problems, and Fr Michael Lapsley's
'Institute for the Healing of Memories'.
In recent years we have also supported the following:
- Matthew Rusike Children's Home in Zimbabwe
- the ecumenical church of the Holy Family in Blackbird Leys
- Chacroseca, a village in Nicaragua
- Luther Street Medical Centre in Oxford, a new clinic that has been set up to care for homeless people
- Asylum Welcome and Detainee Support, a group that helps asylum seekers in Britain, especially those held at the nearby Campsfield House, both during detention and, for the few, after release
- OxPip, the Oxford Parent-Infant project, a local project helping young mothers bond with their babies
Individual commitments
Through our prayers, our actions and our individual resources we also
support many other groups in Oxford and beyond, including the following:
- Christian Aid
- Gatehouse (a drop-in centre for homeless and lonely people over 25, founded by the churches)
- Methodist Homes
- NCH
- Traidcraft (we run a Traidcraft stall after the morning service every Sunday)
In common with all the other churches, we fully support the Make Poverty History campaign.
