Open Doors Redevelopment Project - the plans
After a series of consultations with the congregation and the current users, and meetings and motions at Church Council, the following scheme was prepared by Gray Baynes and Shew, architects of Oxford.
It provides for the creation of new space as well as the refurbishment and updating of existing space. (Link to architectural plans)
The creation of new spaces
- a fully glazed entrance to the hall premises between the front of the John Wesley Room and the Church incorporating display and exhibition area;
- an enlarged reception area (currently the link porch) with additional ground floor toilet facilities for women;
- a covered walkway from the current link porch to the rear office space and 'green' kitchen;
- an enlarged (30m²) 'green' kitchen at the rear of the main hall, fully equipped for preparing and cooking meals including a counter serving directly to the hall (the existing stage removed and replaced with a demountable stage to be used anywhere in the main hall, as required);
- additional multi-purpose space above the 'green' kitchen of 28m² (for example as a meeting room or office) with storage space;
- 21 cycle racks relocated to rear of Church providing security behind a modified gate.
The refurbishment of existing spaces
- the John Wesley Room completely renovated with new floor, new radiators, comfort cooling, a new window on the north elevation (overlooking the History Faculty grounds), extended serving hatch to kitchen, automated, fully-glazed entrance doors from street (but external wooden doors retained as at Church entrance)
