Wesley Memorial is a Fairtrade Church. It meets the three goals set out by the Fairtrade Foundation, which are to:
The Church also runs a Fairtrade stall in the hall after the Sunday morning service.
We believe that God gave us the duty of caring for the Earth. We follow the philosophy of 'living lightly' on the Earth and aim to have a positive impact on the world that was created for us. We aspire to be an EcoCongregation, by making the link between environmental issues and our Christian faith, and by taking practical steps to reduce our carbon footprint as individuals and as members of the church, and as members of the local and the global community.
Wesley Memorial Church has very close links to the Oxford Christian Aid team: the annual Christian Aid market is held on our premises; individual members of the congregation organise House to House collections around Oxford; and the Open Doors project has a specific Christian Aid strand. Five percent of all voluntary donations and local fundraising will go to Christian Aid, initially for a project in Burkina Faso.
