Day of Prayer and Fasting September 2017
The 2017 Methodist Conference asked Methodists across the country to observe a Day of Prayer and Fasting at the beginning of the new church year. This is in response to ‘the challenges and changes facing every community in these islands and the urgent call of God on the Methodist people to share the love of God in Jesus Christ in word and action.’
Many Methodists will wish to observe the Day of Prayer on Friday 1 September, the first day of the new Connexional Year. A leaflet of prayer suggestions prepared for the Oxford Circuit may be downloaded here. Please take the opportunity to use these prayers on 1 September, either at home or wherever you find yourself!
The Conference has recognised that a Friday might not be an ideal day for corporate prayer, and has encouraged us to be flexible in our planning. The Oxford Circuit has therefore decided to hold our Day of Prayer on Saturday 9 September. The leaflet of suggestions may be used on that day for personal prayer. In addition, many of our churches will be open, either for the Historic Churches’ Trust annual Ride & Stride, or for special times of prayer. Where churches are open for the Ride & Stride, prayer boards will be available for people to leave prayer requests, and these will be incorporated into the intercessions on Sunday 10 September.
Times of opening will be posted on this page of the website, as details of local plans are confirmed.
Wesley Memorial: open for Ride & Stride from 10 a.m.
Cowley Road open for Ride & Stride from 10 a.m.
